Methodology & disclosure
How this site earns your trust
A decision tool is only useful if you can see how it was built. This page documents our source types, update cadence, commercial position and the limits of any result the tool gives you.
What this site is — and is not
Doll Material Lab is an editorial decision guide for adults comparing silicone and TPE materials. It explains trade-offs, produces a working material direction, and lists what to verify with a seller before buying.
It is not a shop, not a review site, and not a source of absolute performance claims. We do not currently list products, prices, ratings or stock, and we do not recommend specific items.
Imagery disclosure: the site currently uses collected third-party product photos as local research-preview placeholders (in public/images/library/ and public/images/research-preview/) across the home page, guide covers and section imagery. They are grouped only by the material named in the original listing, carry generic captions, and show no product names, prices, ratings, sellers, links or sources. Every one of them must be replaced with properly licensed first-party imagery before any public release.
Source types we use
Manufacturer and seller documentation: care instructions, material and construction descriptions, specifications and warranty terms published for specific products.
Published material references: widely documented characteristics of platinum-cured silicone and TPE compounds, used only at the level of tendency, never as guarantees for a specific item.
Community-reported questions: recurring buyer questions and friction points, used to decide which topics deserve a page — never quoted as evidence for a claim.
Internal research snapshots of other sites are used only to understand the market landscape. They are never shown here as prices, product claims or product recommendations; the only visible use is the site's clearly-labeled research-preview placeholder imagery, which carries no product identification and must be replaced with licensed first-party imagery before public release.
Update principles
Every comparison row and result page carries the date its wording was last reviewed. The current review date is Aug 22, 2026.
Wording that depends on how sellers behave (price direction, policies, packaging) is reviewed at least quarterly; wording that depends on material properties is reviewed at least twice a year.
When we cannot verify something, we say so in place rather than replacing it with a plausible-sounding claim. Guides that fail review are unpublished, not softened.
Editorial and commercial disclosure
Editorial status: Doll Material Lab is an independent project. Guides are written in-house; there is currently no sponsored content and no guest posts.
Commercial status: we have no affiliate, advertising or shop relationships today. If that changes, links will be visibly labeled, disclosed on this page with a date, and kept separate from the tool's logic.
The material check's rules do not favor any seller, brand or product. Its outcomes are derived only from the answers you give.
Where a result stops applying
A material direction is a starting point for comparing products, not a purchase verdict. Two items of the same material can differ more from each other than the two materials differ on average.
We never infer a product's weight, size, care steps or price from its material name — those come only from the listing for the exact item.
Nothing on this site is medical, safety or physical-handling advice. Confirm handling feasibility, regional legality and delivery terms with the seller before purchasing.
All content is intended for adults 18+ only.
What the tool stores
The material check stores your five enum-valued answers in your own browser session, so a reload keeps your place. Nothing is transmitted to us, there are no accounts, and no free text is collected anywhere on this site.
Self-hosted Umami page-view analytics (um.dollhelp.com) runs on this site — cookieless, no personal data, no cross-site tracking. Your individual answers are never attached to any analytics payload.
"Start over" on the result page clears the session immediately.

Questions, corrections and source suggestions are welcome. A public contact address will be added here before launch — return to the material check in the meantime.
